Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 5 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet urged citizens not to escalate minor personal disputes on social media, advising them to engage in peaceful discussions to resolve conflicts.
The premier spoke on Wednesday (Mar. 5) at the 27th National Culture Day at the Diamond Island Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Samdech Thipadei noted that small incidents often become larger issues when individuals call upon others to intervene instead of resolving them directly. He emphasised the importance of a collaborative approach, stating, “When a problem arises, we should work together to solve it rather than turning to social media for public intervention.”
“Nowadays, with TikTok and Facebook, even minor issues lead to live broadcasts. Each side tries to justify itself, and in the end, the problem escalates unnecessarily. If we simply talk to each other, solutions come easily. But when we avoid direct discussion and take our grievances to Facebook instead, communication breaks down,” the premier underscored.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Hun Manet urged the public to seek peaceful resolutions rather than resorting to live-streaming conflicts, which only exacerbates tensions and involves thousands of uninformed viewers.
