Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 9 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet instructed authorities, particularly the traffic police, to review their procedures and refrain from obstructing ambulances transporting patients to hospitals during official processions. Instead, the premier urged them to make arrangements that allow ambulances to continue their journey without disruption.

The premier spoke in a special voice message on his official Facebook page on Sunday (Mar. 9).

“I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to all authorities, especially the traffic police, for their continuous efforts in maintaining safety and order on public roads across the country, particularly in Phnom Penh, which has a large population and a vibrant economy.

I would also like to commend His Excellency, the General Commissariat of National Police, as well as all provincial and capital police commissioners, for their dedication in leading and overseeing this crucial task on a regular basis.

Having personally been involved in security operations to protect both national and international leaders, I understand the challenges of balancing security measures with the convenience of citizens in certain restricted zones. However, while strict and rigorous enforcement of duties is essential, flexibility must also be applied where necessary—particularly in cases involving the preservation of human life.

It is imperative that we continue working together to minimise any inconvenience to the public. I also seek the understanding of our citizens, as despite the authorities’ best efforts to reduce disruptions, short-term traffic delays on some public roads may occasionally be unavoidable.”
