Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 10 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said that that the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) card offers numerous benefits for workers, both in cases of illness and accidents, adding that the NSSF is responsible for covering related costs.
The premier addressed workers at the Marvel Garment Factory nursery in Phnom Penh's Royal Group Special Economic Zone on Monday (Mar. 10).
According to Samdech Thipadei, in addition to the NSSF, private companies have also contributed to easing workers' burdens by establishing in-factory nurseries. These facilities enable mothers to stay close to their children while reducing the need for external caregivers and associated costs. Furthermore, he highlighted that, with the support of the Social Welfare Board, citizens can lower their expenses and save money through access to free social welfare services.
On the occasion, the premier reaffirmed the Royal Government’s commitment to increasing the number of nurseries in factories and enterprises to alleviate the burden on workers, particularly female workers who must balance employment and childcare responsibilities.
As of the end of 2024, 1.1 million pregnant women and children under two from low-income families with social security cards and NSSF membership have received subsidies through the government’s cash assistance program.
