Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 10 – In response to a question from Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet regarding the use of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) card at health centres, factory workers stated that they find it easy to use and that the services provided at health centres are good, with doctors being friendly and welcoming.
The premier met with workers at the Marvel Garment Factory nursery in Phnom Penh's Royal Group Special Economic Zone on Monday (Mar. 10).
Alongside discussions on family and income status, as well as employer-provided care, Samdech Thipadei highlighted the numerous benefits of the NSSF system, which is provided by the Royal Government. The premier also inquired about the experiences of workers using the NSSF card at health centres.
Responding without hesitation, an NSSF member stated that she and other workers find it very convenient to use the NSSF card, as it allows them to receive medical check-ups and treatment at health centres and NSSF-affiliated facilities without incurring personal expenses. In addition to receiving free medical care, pregnant women who undergo check-ups and give birth are entitled to government subsidies from the early stages of pregnancy through to delivery.
A factory worker in uniform took the microphone and told the premier,"No, when we went, the doctors were friendly and welcoming, and they spoke to us well. They didn’t treat us differently just because we have the NSSF. When we arrived, they took our cards, completed the documents, and provided us with good advice."
On the occasion, Prime Minister Hun Manet reiterated his previous directive to the Ministry of Health to improve the quality of healthcare services at health centres and hospitals without discrimination. He acknowledged that some facilities had previously been negligent in providing services and instructed them to continue improving standards.
