Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 11 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said that the integration of technology into the education system offers additional opportunities and possibilities for learning. He stressed the importance of modernisation, regular updates, and research to enhance the quality of education.
The premier addressed over 4,500 Vanda Institute graduates on Tuesday morning (Mar. 11) at the Diamond Island Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Samdech Thipadei commended the Board of Directors, professors, staff, and all cooperation partners of Vanda Institute for their contributions to developing high-quality human capital. He highlighted the significance of equipping students with skills, knowledge, expertise, strong ethics, professional integrity, and dignity, as they play a crucial role in shaping Cambodia’s future.
Meanwhile, the prime minister noted that private higher education institutions have played a vital role in training and developing human resources, particularly young people, who are the backbone of institutional continuity and national sustainability.
Additionally, he added that the establishment, assurance, and promotion of quality, alongside regular updates and modernisation in state institutions, are no different from the education sector, which also requires continuous improvements.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet pointed out that, over the past decade, the number of secondary school students nationwide has risen by approximately 400,000 to 500,000. As a result, the demand for school buildings and teachers has increased. He emphasised the necessity of constructing high school buildings in remote areas to prevent students from dropping out due to long travel distances.
Samdech Thipadei stated that while the lack of school buildings is a concern, the shortage of teachers is a more pressing issue. He stressed the importance of filling these gaps to ensure the smooth functioning of the education system.
Samdech Thipadei reiterated the need for a clear and regulated process for addressing teacher shortages, ensuring that appointments are made strictly in accordance with the Ministry of Education’s guidelines.
