Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 12 – The Morodok Techo flyover, which connects Monivong Boulevard, Samdech Techo Hun Sen Boulevard, and Yothapol Khemarak Phoumin Boulevard (271) in Phnom Penh’s Meanchey and Chamkar Mon districts, is now 99 percent complete.
Do Samphors, Deputy Director of Administration and Spokesperson for Phnom Penh Capital Administration, announced on Tuesday (Mar. 11) that the Morodok Techo flyover is scheduled for temporary use before Khmer New Year 2025. This will facilitate travel for residents visiting Choeung Ek district and help alleviate congestion at the intersection ahead of its official inauguration.
Officials from the Phnom Penh Municipal Department of Public Works and Transport confirmed that as of 10 March 2025, construction had reached 99 percent completion and is expected to be fully finished by 20 March 2025. This two-storey flyover is designed to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion at the intersection of Monivong Boulevard, Yothapol Khemarak Phoumin Boulevard (271), and Samdech Techo Hun Sen Boulevard.
Notably, the second phase of the Morodok Techo flyover saw the first-floor bridge connection ceremony on 17 December 2024, presided over by Phnom Penh Governor Khoung Sreng and Neak Oknha Pung Kheav Se, Chairman of the Overseas Cambodian Investment Corporation (OCIC).
The initial flyover section was inaugurated by Governor Khoung Sreng and his spouse on 30 August 2022, while the groundbreaking ceremony for the second phase was led by former Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen on 31 August 2022.
Constructed by OCIC, the flyover is located at the junction of Samdech Techo Hun Sen Boulevard, Preah Monivong Boulevard, and Yothapol Khemarak Phoumin Boulevard (271) in Chamkar Mon and Meanchey districts. The project cost over USD 36 million and was built over a 36-month period.
The new flyover is expected to ease traffic flow from Kandal province via Techo Hun Sen Boulevard, facilitating smoother access from the new Phnom Penh International Airport into the capital. Additionally, it is anticipated to reduce congestion on National Road 1 leading into Phnom Penh.
