Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 14 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said that peace has provided an opportunity for Buddhists to fulfil their aspirations and achieve new milestones both within the Buddhist community and across the Kingdom.
The premier spoke on Friday (Mar. 14) at the showering ceremony of Samdech Buddhist Monks at Wat Botum Vathey.
“Under the shadow of peace, Cambodia has the opportunity, capacity, and ability to accelerate development in all sectors. This peace has also enabled our Buddhist community to perform the alms-giving ceremony as they wish, while creating new achievements both in the Buddhist world and across the Kingdom,” the premier underscored.
Samdech Thipadei expressed his deep appreciation for the significant progress in religious and spiritual practices, as highlighted in the welcoming speech and report by Minister of Cults and Religion, Chay Borin.
The premier advised the Ministry of Cults and Religion to collaborate with both Buddhist Sanghas in organising training on the roles and responsibilities of monks, abbots, and temple committees—particularly focusing on the Buddhist Sangha system nationwide. This initiative aims to strengthen capacity and enhance understanding of monks' duties in accordance with legal standards, thereby preventing and reducing misconduct within temples.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Hun Manet also encouraged the Ministry of Cults and Religion to continue fostering cooperation and maintaining good relations with other religious communities, both nationally and internationally, in line with the principle of ethnic harmony.
The premier added that the Provincial and Municipal Departments of Cults and Religion must continue to oversee and lead religious affairs within communities through close collaboration with temple leadership, committees, and relevant authorities at all levels.
