Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 14 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet presented 5 points to advance the development of Cambodia’s religious sector and foster peace and harmony among its citizens, speaking on Friday (Mar. 14) at the showering ceremony of Samdech Buddhist Monks at Wat Botum Vathey.

On this occasion, Samdech Thipadei praised and highly valued the significant achievements in the field of cults and religion.

Alongside the many achievements in religious and spiritual affairs, on behalf of the Royal Government and in his own capacity as a Buddhist, the prime minister shared the following key perspectives:

1. All religious leaders are encouraged to continue fostering virtue, morality, and ethical behaviour while preserving the nation’s cultural heritage, traditions, and customs. Through sermons, public discourse, and dissemination via social media, efforts should be made to instil moral values, reduce immorality and violence, and strengthen national unity and solidarity.

2. The Ministry of Cult and Religion should continue collaborating with the two Buddhist monastic orders to uphold religious harmony, social solidarity, and national progress. Additionally, the Ministry should work with relevant ministries, institutions, and the private sector to promote Buddhism and social ethics through various initiatives, including the production of educational short videos on morality, etiquette, and Buddhist ceremonies, to be broadcast on television, social media, and public billboards.

3. To enhance the quality of education and personal development, the Ministry should consider incorporating meditation programs into the curriculum of Buddhist students at all levels. This initiative aims to strengthen intellectual capacity, physical and mental well-being, and social responsibility.

4. The Ministry should collaborate with both Buddhist monastic orders to organize training programs on the roles and responsibilities of monks, abbots, and temple committees nationwide. This effort will ensure a deeper understanding of their duties in accordance with legal and ethical standards while also helping to prevent and address misconduct within temple communities.

5. The Ministry should continue to build strong, harmonious relationships with other religious communities at both national and international levels, ensuring peaceful coexistence among different faiths. Additionally, provincial and municipal Departments of Cult and Religion should actively oversee and manage religious affairs within communities by working closely with temple leaders, committees, and local authorities.
