Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 14 – Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Cambodian Senate President, told convict Sam Rainsy to abandon hopes for his "Blooming Flower" campaign and refrain from relying on the United States (US) to pressure Cambodia. He added that Cambodia serves as a mediator between ASEAN and the US, and pointed out that Rainsy himself has also criticized Donald Trump.

Samdech Techo spoke on Friday (Mar. 14) during a solidarity dinner with the Cambodian Oknha Association at Premier Centre Sen Sok in Phnom Penh.

Samdech Techo stated, "Don’t hope for flowers or any day of overthrow. I wonder why you [Rainsy] keep going to America, openly criticizing Donald Trump, yet now you rely on the US to oppress Cambodia."

Samdech Techo continued, "Cambodia serves as a mediator between ASEAN and the United States. You need to understand this fact. Do you truly not understand this, or are you just pretending to be ignorant? If Cambodia and the US do not engage fairly, who else will mediate between ASEAN and the US? If the US tries to impose something on Cambodia and we refuse, what will happen? Cambodia has its rights as both an ASEAN member and a mediator. Even during Donald Trump’s presidency, mediation continued from Joe Biden, and we will not make America our enemy."

On the occasion, Samdech Techo Hun Sen added that Cambodia aims to be friends with all nations and supports resolving global conflicts through peaceful negotiations, whether in Gaza or Ukraine. Regardless of who takes the lead, Cambodia welcomes any resolution that ends the wars, as peace is what Cambodia desires.
