Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 14 – Cambodian Senate President, Samdech Techo Hun Sen criticised extremist opposition figures after Donald Trump assumed office for his second term as the President of the United States, mobilising top billionaires to assist in leading the nation. This approach, he noted, mirrors the Royal Government of Cambodia’s collaboration with tycoons, which the opposition had previously criticised.

Samdech Techo spoke on Friday (Mar. 14) during a solidarity dinner with the Cambodian Oknha Association at Premier Centre Sen Sok in Phnom Penh.

According to Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the situation in the US following Donald Trump’s presidency serves as a concrete example for Cambodia. He stated that there is nothing wrong with mobilising the wealthy to support the Royal Government.

On the contrary, Samdech Techo Hun Sen asserted that a stronger private sector leads to a stronger nation. He reiterated the prime minister’s previous remarks about using all available means to enhance the capacity of resourceful individuals in Cambodia.

He noted that President Donald Trump, now in his second term, has brought together billionaires to assist in governing the country. This approach, he argued, is not flawed but rather leverages the expertise of prominent business leaders like Elon Musk to ensure government efficiency.

On the occasion, Samdech Techo Hun Sen emphasised that the US example under President Donald Trump further validates the importance of the Cambodian private sector, which the Royal Government must continue to strengthen. He also expressed gratitude to Cambodian companies for fulfilling their tax obligations diligently, from his tenure as prime minister to the current leadership of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet. He highlighted that the new government continues to benefit from robust national income generated through customs and taxes.
