Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 14 – Cambodian Senate President, Samdech Techo Hun Sen strongly responded to the extremist opposition group that often compares or associates him with leaders from other countries who have been arrested. He advised them not to take others' successes as their own and blame every failure on him. “Hun Sen is Hun Sen, Hun Sen of Cambodia."
Samdech Techo spoke on Friday (Mar. 14) during a solidarity dinner with the Cambodian Oknha Association at Premier Centre Sen Sok in Phnom Penh.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen's response came in reaction to the opposition group abroad that frequently links him to world leaders, including former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, who was arrested by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for crimes against humanity.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen underscored, “Please do not compare the success of others to your own success and blame every failure on Hun Sen. Hun Sen is Hun Sen, the Hun Sen of Cambodia. Please remember that. Now, after 55 years of activity, we have only 4 days left until the 55th anniversary of the coup that overthrew the late King father Norodom Sihanouk as the head of state.”
Samdech Techo Hun Sen recalled that at the age of not yet 18, he volunteered at the call of the late King father Norodom Sihanouk to join the movement to liberate the country. During the bitter phase of the war, Samdech Techo was injured five times. He also took action to liberalise Cambodia from the Khmer Rouge regime, that were responsible for the deaths of millions of innocent Cambodians.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen questioned, “Was I wrong to fight the invaders? If it weren’t for the coup on March 18, would Cambodia be at war? No. If we had left it to the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk, our leader, how would the country have progressed?”
Samdech Techo Hun Sen declared, “The Duterte story is Duterte’s story, but Hun Sen is not Duterte.”
He also recalled how, in the past, extremist opposition leaders abroad often compared him to figures like the former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, who was killed, former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, and the situation in Bangladesh following the overthrow of its government. Similarly, when Aung San Suu Kyi won the election in Myanmar, they compared themselves to her and placed Samdech Techo in the position of Myanmar's military, who lost the election.
