Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 20 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet recommended reviewing and consolidating laboratories spread across ministries and institutions, while also hiring qualified officials for their respective fields.
The premier spoke on Thursday (Mar. 20) during the closing ceremony of 2024 Ministry of Civil Service annual meeting at Premier Centre Sen Sok in Phnom Penh.
Samdech Thipadei underscored, “We have laboratories in many ministries and institutions, some of which are similar and scattered within individual ministries. Some ministries have multiple labs, but they have been consolidated. Additionally, there are many labs throughout the country and across government sectors. The next step is to consider how we can group these laboratories by sector. Some laboratories may relate to infrastructure, land, and public works, so we need to examine sectors as clusters and explore ways to strengthen cooperation and align them more effectively.”
Regarding the creation of new units, Samdech Thipadei urged a thorough review. New units should only be established if no other existing units can handle the tasks. If an existing unit can take on additional work, the tasks should be reassigned rather than creating a new unit.
On the occasion, the premier also underlined the importance of assigning tasks to existing units, focusing on strengthening them rather than expanding the bureaucracy.
