Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 20 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet instructed Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng to arrange free bus services for people traveling to their hometowns during the upcoming Khmer New Year.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Mar. 20) during the closing ceremony of 2024 Ministry of Civil Service annual meeting at Premier Centre Sen Sok in Phnom Penh.

Samdech Thipadei noted that the provision of free buses has significantly reduced travel expenses for citizens. For instance, individuals travelling from Phnom Penh to Mondulkiri province typically spend between 80,000 and 100,000 riels (approximately USD20-25) or more. Families travelling together may incur costs of around USD 100–200. However, with free bus services, these financial burdens are alleviated.

Samdech Thipadei added, “Last year, we successfully transported hundreds of thousands to their hometowns, and I am very grateful for the arrangements. This year, please continue the preparations. Regardless of the number of passengers, we will ensure their travel is facilitated. We will once again offer free transport for people returning to their hometowns on Phnom Penh Municipal buses.”
