Kandal (FN), Mar. 21 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet addressed the case of a foreigner being robbed, praising the authorities for their swift resolution of the incident while highlighting the need for continued attention to security and safety measures.
The premier spoke on Friday (Mar. 21) at the inauguration of a school building and various achievements at Hun Sen Sereipheap High School, Takhmao City, Kandal Province.
On that occasion, Samdech Thipadei emphasised Cambodia's security, noting that foreigners can walk at night without fear of theft or harm—something not always possible in some more powerful countries.
Samdech Thipadei underscored, “I saw a foreigner visit Cambodia recently. He walked around at 10 p.m. and did not fear that he would be robbed or attacked. He said this wasn’t the case in some powerful countries, where people are afraid to go out at night for fear of being mugged or having their phones stolen. But in Cambodia, a developing country, he felt safer than in some of those nations.”
Meanwhile, Samdech Thipadei also referenced a recent case where a foreign visitor’s wallet was stolen. Within just an hour or two, Cambodian police arrested the suspect. He commended the authorities for their swift response in resolving the matter.
Samdech Thipadei further underscored, “Safety, stability, and security are matters that require continuous attention from the authorities. These issues are also closely linked to our education system.”
On 15 March 2025, Chris Rodriguez, an American vlogger famous for sharing positive stories about Cambodia on TikTok and Facebook under the name “travelwithchris,” and his fiancée—also a popular vlogger—were robbed near Wat Phnom in Daun Penh District.
The perpetrator, who stole the wallet of Chris’s fiancée, was swiftly identified and arrested by the Criminal Police Department in coordination with the Phnom Penh Police Department on the evening of 15 March, just hours after the crime took place.
