Takeo (FN), 22 March – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that there will be no ban on water-related activities during the upcoming Khmer New Year celebration. However, he urged the public to play responsibly and prioritize safety. He also called for the promotion of Khmer traditional games to celebrate the festive spirit.
The premier spoke on Saturday (22 March) at the opening ceremony of the 9th River Festival in Takeo province.
"Please promote and encourage more traditional games to be organised in our local communities, everywhere [...] We do not prohibit water fights, but it must be done safely and with caution," the premier underscored.
At the same time, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet called on provincial and municipal authorities to organise Khmer New Year celebrations at all levels—from provinces to districts and communes—at tourist destinations and temples, in addition to the grand Angkor Sangkran event in Siem Reap province.
It is worth noting that the traditional Khmer New Year festival will take place over three days, from 13-16 April 2025.
