Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 24 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed the Royal Government of Cambodia’s commitment to upholding religious freedom and ensuring harmony among believers of all faiths.
The premier spoke on Monday (Mar. 24) at the 2025 Ramadan Iftar dinner in Phnom Penh.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underscored, “The Royal Government is dedicated to safeguarding religious freedom for all, strengthening harmony among believers of different faiths, and opposing any discriminatory actions that could lead to religious conflict in Cambodia.”
Samdech Thipadei underlined that Cambodia takes great pride in the peaceful coexistence of its diverse religious communities. This harmony is not only a national achievement but also a source of international recognition, as many countries have commended Cambodia’s success in fostering religious tolerance through sound government policies. These efforts are made possible through strong cooperation between government institutions, partner organisations, and religious communities, ensuring continued efficiency and inclusivity in religious affairs now and in the future.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei also expressed pride in the role of Senior Minister Othsman Hassan, who has actively participated in international Islamic conferences to promote ethnic and religious harmony in Cambodia.
The premier added that Cambodia recently hosted two significant international events in Phnom Penh:
1. The Islamic Summit on “Islam and Buddhism”, organised by the Muslim World League, marking the first of its kind in Cambodia and globally.
2. The 20th General Assembly of the Regional Islamic Da'wah Council for Southeast Asia and the Pacific (RISEAP), attended by representatives from 25 countries.
These events, Samdech Thipadei continued, reflect the unity and religious harmony that Cambodia has diligently cultivated under the leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen. Maintaining this balance is essential for the country’s long-term peace and stability.
