Sihanoukville (FN), Mar. 26 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet affirmed that safeguarding Cambodia’s territorial integrity follows a clear strategy, not mere imagination, and that military force is not an option.

The premier spoke on Wednesday (Mar. 26) at the official inauguration of the new school building, teachers' dormitory, and management facility at Hun Sen Veal Rehn High School.

“The border issue is not a matter that can be resolved in a single day. Complaints and deploying troops to fight do not solve any problem, especially when it comes to conflicts between armed forces and the application of international technical standards. We must continue to prioritise our national interests,” the premier underscored.

Meanwhile, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet stated that protecting Cambodia’s territory is a long-term responsibility, as the border demarcation with Viet Nam remains incomplete, with only 16 per cent left to be finalised. He stressed the necessity of completing this demarcation process.

On the occasion, the premier further explained that instead of complaining about territorial loss, efforts should be directed towards building and safeguarding Cambodia’s borders. This includes measuring and defining border areas, strengthening national defence, ensuring border security, and fostering development along border regions.

Samdech Thipadei also highlighted that the Royal Government has always pursued legal and diplomatic solutions. Referring to the border dispute from 2008 to 2011, he noted that Cambodia had submitted a case to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) regarding the Preah Vihear temple. He affirmed that the government is well aware of the appropriate legal methods to follow without resorting to internal conflict.
