Banteay Meanchey (FN), Mar. 26 – The Investigation and Crime Suppression Command of the Ministry of Interior would like to inform both the national and international public that on 22 March 2025, Banteay Meanchey Provincial Commissariat Police conducted coordinated raids on two locations in Poipet City, Banteay Meanchey Province.
"These operations were undertaken following an extensive period of investigation and surveillance into suspected online criminal activities. The law enforcement actions were carried out under the high-level directives from, Minister of Interior Sar Sokha, as well as under the direct leadership of the General Commissioner of Cambodia National Police," according to the press release seen by Fresh News on Wednesday (Mar. 26).
"During these operations, police apprehended a total of 63 Thai nationals, comprising 30 females and two minors. Additionally, the raids led to the confiscation of substantial evidence, including 33 computers, 65 mobile phones, 65 Thai identity cards, and 2 Thai passports. A preliminary assessment of the collected evidence indicated that the individuals involved were preparing to engage in illicit online activities, utilizing Cambodian territory as an operational base to conduct offenses targeting foreign jurisdictions.
Among these individuals, police identified 10 persons who were actively preparing materials to facilitate illegal online activities. Furthermore, 46 individuals were discovered living under restricted conditions that limited their freedom of movement; however, no evidence was found to suggest that they were victims of physical violence or human trafficking. Investigators also identified seven Thai nationals (including one female) as masterminds behind the criminal operation.
As for the 56 Thai nationals, the Cambodian National Police will request cooperation with Thai provincial police to facilitate their deportation from the Kingdom of Cambodia based on their requests. Meanwhile, legal proceedings concerning the 7 suspects are ongoing at the Banteay Meanchey Provincial Commissariat."
