Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 31 – The International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutes individuals for genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and aggression.
Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte was arrested on 11 March 2025, for crimes against humanity linked to the Davao Death Squad’s extrajudicial killings (2011–2019).
Other indicted leaders include Sudan’s Omar al-Bashir (Darfur genocide), Côte d’Ivoire’s Laurent Gbagbo (acquitted in 2019), Russia’s Vladimir Putin, and Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu.
The 124 ICC member states must arrest wanted individuals on their territory. While some, like Canada and Ireland, vowed to detain Netanyahu, others, including Hungary, refused.
The US, not an ICC member, condemned Netanyahu’s warrant. President Trump imposed sanctions, calling the ICC’s actions illegitimate.
