Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 3 – Cambodian Acting Head of State, Samdech Techo Hun Sen sent a letter of condolences to Laotian Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone following the passing of Khamtai Siphandone, former President and Prime Minister of Lao PDR.

"I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of His Excellency Khamtai Siphandone, former President and Prime Minister of Lao PDR and former Chairman of the Central Committee of Lao People's Revolutionary Party, in Vientiane yesterday morning. For Your Excellency, his demise is the loss of your beloved and most respected father, and for the whole nation of Lao PDR, the loss of one of the most pivotal political figures and outstanding statesmen in the history of the Lao PDR, whose contributions helped lead to its prosperity," according to the letter seen by Fresh News on Thursday (Apr. 3).

"His Excellency Khamtai Siphandone will always be remembered as a great friend and partner of Cambodia. As Prime Minister and later President, he played an active role in building the enduring friendship between our two nations. His vital contributions to the strengthening of our party-to-party relationship have left a lasting legacy in our shared history.

During this period of mourning, on behalf of the people of Cambodia, I wish to extend my deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to you, your bereaved family, as well as to the Lao people and the Lao People's Revolutionary Party for this immense loss. May his soul rest in eternal peace."
