Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 7 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed his appreciation and support for groups of young people and students who have voluntarily organised clean-up efforts in canals, rivers, and public areas to help modernise Cambodian society.
The premier spoke on Monday (Apr. 7) at the inauguration of the USD 37 million Morodok Techo flyover in Phnom Penh.
On that occasion, Samdech Thipadei urged all citizens, particularly the youth, to work together to build a better society and to correct past mistakes collectively.
Samdech Thipadei commended the young people who have formed groups to engage in humanitarian and social work, including helping families in need. However, he warned against the formation of so-called gangsters, stating that authorities would take strict measures to eliminate such groups.
“We should encourage positive actions, including voluntary initiatives by citizens, especially our youth. These are indicators of a civilised society. A civilised society is not merely about having things to show off, but about living with dignity, respect, and morality. That is the true meaning of a civilised society,” the premier underscored.
At the same time, the premier noted that while motorcycle groups that open the way for emergency vehicles are engaging in helpful activities, he does not encourage them to continue in this role. He emphasised that this responsibility should be left to the police.
