Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 8 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet met with representatives from countries, development partners, and the private sector who are supporting mine clearance efforts in Cambodia on Tuesday (Apr. 8) at the Peace Palace.

Samdech Thipadei underlined that three decades of war have left millions of landmines and unexploded ordnance scattered across the country, continuing to endanger lives and posing a major obstacle to Cambodia’s socio-economic development. Successive Royal Governments have shown strong determination in mobilising all resources to address the mine problem and transform contaminated areas into safe land for habitation and agriculture.

Samdech Thipadei added that Cambodia’s mine action efforts have been widely recognised and praised by both national and international communities. These efforts have saved lives and turned dangerous land into productive areas for development—contributing significantly to poverty reduction and improvements in livelihoods across the country.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei acknowledged that these achievements would not have been possible without the generous contributions of friendly countries, development partners, and the private sector, who have provided financial support, materials, and technical expertise to aid the Royal Government’s demining efforts.

Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed his sincere gratitude to all supporters and called for continued collaboration in helping Cambodia achieve its ambitious goal of becoming mine-free by 2030.
