Tboung Khmum (FN), Apr. 12 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Mant said that the Royal Government is currently studying the construction of a direct road connecting Kratie and Kampong Thom provinces, as well as a new route linking Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri provinces to Phnom Penh. These projects aim to enhance regional connectivity and ease travel for citizens.

The premier spoke on Saturday (Apr. 12) during the inauguration of National Road 71C connecting Tbong Khmum-Kampong Cham.

“In 2026, we plan to complete the Preaek Prasab Bridge. Once that is done, we aim to enable people in Kratie to travel directly to Kampong Thom […] Upon completion of the bridge, we will proceed with the construction of Road 60B, which will connect Kratie to Kampong Thmor in Kampong Thom province, offering greater convenience for citizens without requiring them to cross the Kizuna Bridge,” the premier underscored.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet further explained that these infrastructure developments are part of a broader vision to transform roads into economic corridors, boosting agricultural and industrial growth in connected areas. The Royal Government plans to further expand national highways, provincial roads, and sub-national roads to ensure accessibility for all citizens.

“We are also exploring options to connect Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri provinces without having to pass through Kratie. At present, travellers must go through Nuol and Tbong Khmum, which is a long journey. We are studying a route that would provide a more direct land connection via Kratie, making it easier in the future for residents from Stung Trang, for example, to visit Mondulkiri,” the premier added.

The premier reaffirmed the Royal Government’s commitment to expanding road infrastructure to not only facilitate travel but also to stimulate local economies along these transport routes.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet added that constructing more connecting roads across the country is a long-term strategy of the Royal Government. While progress may not be immediate, the government is committed to advancing step by step, even through difficult circumstances, to build more roads that will serve the needs of the people.
