Kampot (FN), Apr. 21 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet announced that on 19 April, two Japanese naval ships docked at Preah Sihanouk Port. Naval vessels from Viet Nam, India, Russia, and the United States are also expected to arrive in the coming days.
The premier spoke on Monday (Apr. 21) during the inauguration of the Kampot International Tourist Port.
Samdech Thipadei underscored, “On the 19th, Japanese naval ships arrived. We cooperate on security with all countries, including China and Japan. We welcomed them. Other countries such as Viet Nam, India, and Russia have already submitted applications and will be arriving at the port soon. When we take these steps, the US may also consider docking. We welcome them all—this is our concrete action.”
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei underlined that Cambodia is not handing over its sovereignty or its armed forces, at either the sub-national or national level, to any one country, as some have claimed. He reaffirmed that Cambodia’s foreign policy is rooted in independence, neutrality, and the principle of making friends with all nations without viewing any country as an adversary.
Samdech Thipadei added that Chinese and Japanese naval ships have come and cooperated with us. At the same time, no country has opposed our decisions because it is the sovereign right of every nation to choose its partners.
