(Phnom Penh): Khuon Sudary, President of the Cambodian National Assembly, expressed support for and warmly welcomed the diplomatic mission of Tull Traisorat, the newly-appointed Thai Ambassador to Cambodia, who is strongly committed to strengthening the close ties between the peoples of Cambodia and Thailand. The ambassador is also dedicated to further promoting trade, tourism, agriculture, and education between the two nations, with the aim of achieving the targeted trade volume of USD 15 billion.
President Khuon Sudary received a courtesy call by Thai Ambassador Tull Traisorat on Monday (Apr. 28) at the National Assembly.
Ambassador Tull Traisorat thanked the president of the National Assembly for the warm reception extended during the recent official visit of the Thai prime minister to Cambodia. He also expressed his determination to advance Cambodia-Thai relations, which now mark their 75th anniversary, making them stronger and more comprehensive across all sectors, including legislative, executive, and private domains.
The ambassador announced several plans that he will strive to achieve during his diplomatic mandate, including that he will soon organise a delegation of the Thai Chamber of Commerce to visit Cambodia. The delegation will meet Cambodian counterparts and conduct practical visits to key investment and tourism sites, especially in Siem Reap and in provinces along the Cambodian-Thai border.
Taking this occasion, Tull Traisorat informed the president of the National Assembly that Thailand ranks as the fifth-largest investor in Cambodia and is the top source of tourists visiting the Kingdom. In 2024, two million Thai tourists travelled to Cambodia, while more than 500,000 Cambodian tourists visited Thailand.
For her part, National Assembly President Khuon Sudary welcomed and fully supported the ambassador’s diplomatic mission to Cambodia. She thanked him and his colleagues for their excellent cooperation with the Cambodian side in organising the official visit of Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, to Cambodia, at the invitation of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, which went smoothly and brought many benefits to both countries and people.
The president of the NA highly appreciated the good relations between the two countries, which are based on honesty and trust, and which have met regularly at all levels, making it easier for the people of the two countries to earn a living and exchange goods on a daily basis.
On the occasion, the president also highly valued the strong relations between Cambodia and Thailand, noting that they are built on honesty and trust, with regular high-level exchanges that have facilitated daily trade and livelihoods for the peoples of both countries. She emphasised that such people-centred relations are vital in the current global context, characterised by complex geopolitical and trade competition.
The strong relations between Cambodia and Thailand, she noted, not only guarantee peace and social stability for their respective peoples but also contribute significantly to regional and global stability.
The meeting also touched on ways to further enhance and deepen bilateral ties in accordance with the spirit of the memorandum of understanding signed between the leaders of the two countries’ parliaments. It was noted that, in the near future, the Thai-Cambodian Parliamentary Friendship Group will visit Cambodia.
Furthermore, in celebration of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations, the president of the Thai National Assembly may also pay an official visit to Cambodia.
Khuon Sudary reaffirmed her full support for the Thai Ambassador’s diplomatic initiatives, expressing confidence that they would bring further success to bilateral relations.
She also highlighted that, in the tourism sector, the Cambodian National Assembly fully supports the new initiative of the six governments known as "Six Countries, One Destination", aimed at promoting tourism cooperation not only between Cambodia and Thailand but also throughout the region to drive shared growth.
Lastly, in the field of security, Cambodia and Thailand have achieved remarkable cooperation results, which have contributed not only to the safety of their peoples but also to the stability of ASEAN as a whole, thereby fostering the development of a prosperous and sustainable ASEAN Community.
