(Takeo): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet advised local government officials not to pursue personal gain but to set goals that prioritise serving the people by striving to deliver quality public services.

The premier spoke on Tuesday (Apr. 29) at the inauguration ceremony for the official use of National Roads No. 31, No. 33, and No. 41, held in Takeo Province.

“Please don’t focus on what benefits you personally. Change the mindset from you to your province. Don’t view investors as coming to see what you have achieved, but rather reflect on what your province and your people in this village or commune have done, and strive harder. We set these goals to serve the people well,” the premier underscored.

Samdech Thipadei explained that if a locality develops, the officials and their families will also benefit. However, if officials prioritise personal interests over public service, investors will be discouraged and opportunities will be lost.

The premier urged local authorities to enhance the quality of public services to stimulate growth in their areas. He also encouraged all localities to compete in providing quality public services.

Samdech Thipadei stressed that delivering prompt and effective public services is essential for attracting investors. While the Royal Government has formulated a strong investment policy and built infrastructure such as roads to direct investors to the provinces, if they encounter poor services, they will choose another province where services are more accessible.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei also pointed out that delays in land title issuance can deter investment. If land titles are not processed within three months, investors will certainly not invest in that district or province. They will instead look for a location that issues titles promptly—and they will invite others to invest there too.

The premier concluded that when a province develops, the honour also extends to its governor and local officials. Similarly, when the nation develops and remains safe, national leaders are accorded honour and respect abroad.
