(Sihanoukville): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet affirmed that the Royal Government is considering the streamlining of various procedures to avoid complexity at the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port when ships arrive to load or unload goods, aiming to attract even more vessels to the port.

The premier spoke on Thursday (May 1) during his meeting with civil servants, staff, and workers of the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port.

Samdech Thipadei underlined that many countries around the world are implementing similar measures, with the goal of minimising bureaucratic complexity and increasing the speed of goods clearance and inspection from one stage to another. He added that by eliminating complicated procedures, more ships will come and go, which in turn will lead to increased revenue.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underscored, "We must continue striving. Streamlining procedures does not mean cutting revenue. If there are too many procedures, fees may be collected at each step, but fewer goods will enter. However, if we cut some procedures, more goods will come in. That means we take a smaller profit per unit but earn more overall."

Samdech Thipadei added that the Royal Government and all relevant ministries and institutions will work hard to review and reform procedures. This will include the use of certain technologies to conduct pre-arrival checks and speed up actual inspections once the containers arrive at the port.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also continued that Sihanoukville Autonomous Port has long been a location of interest for foreign investors who have consistently submitted proposals to invest since the time of Samdech Techo Hun Sen. However, all such proposals were rejected by the Royal Government, keeping the port under state management.

Furthermore, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet praised and highly valued the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, especially the board of directors, leadership, civil servants, staff, and workers of the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port, for their active performance and close cooperation. Their efforts have contributed to the enforcement of national and international labour laws and standards, ensuring the port’s operational efficiency and year-by-year revenue growth. This plays a vital role in Cambodia’s national development and economic growth.
