(Sihanoukville): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet instructed relevant authorities to strengthen monitoring and control mechanisms to prevent the importation of goods falsely labelled as “Made in Cambodia” in an attempt to evade export duties.

The premier spoke on Thursday (May 1) during his meeting with civil servants, staff, and workers of the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port.

“I call upon all relevant institutions — including the Ministry of Commerce, the General Department of Customs and Excise, and other competent authorities — to implement stricter export inspection policies,” the premier underscored.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei also urged responsible agencies to tighten procedures and enhance oversight, even if this entails processing additional documentation. While highlighting the importance of due diligence, the premier emphasised that efficiency must not be sacrificed. He recommended either streamlining existing processes or increasing staffing to avoid delays, remove bottlenecks, and ensure improved export performance to the mutual benefit of all stakeholders.
