(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet asserted that in a democratic society, the press and media are the fourth estate—an essential counterpart to the legislative, executive, and judicial branches.
The premier spoke on Saturday (May 3) his 7th gathering and solidarity dining with journalists at CCIC.
Samdech Thipadei underlined that the Royal Government of Cambodia views the press and media as an integral part of the state governance system. They play a vital role in disseminating information about government activities and achievements to the public, while also serving as a channel to communicate public concerns and social issues back to the government.
Samdech Thipadei underscored, “In a democratic society, the press and media are the fourth estate. They hold unique influence over politics and the three branches of power. Through public discourse and scrutiny of government actions, the media help promote the public interest and hold institutions accountable.”
On the occasion, Prime Minister Hun Manet also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upholding and respecting press freedom, as guaranteed by the Constitution and the Law on the Press.
