(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that when journalists report the news while respecting the rights of others, it reflects and enhances the value of their own journalism.

The premier spoke on Saturday (May 3) during the 7th gathering and solidarity dining with journalists at CCIC.

Samdech Thipadei underlined that journalists must strictly and clearly adhere to a code of ethics to preserve the integrity of Cambodia’s media landscape.

Samdech Thipadei stated, “Even when information is accurate, we must pause and consider its potential impact on individuals and society. Graphic scenes—such as those involving blood or injuries—or revealing the face of a victim’s child may attract public attention, but they can also cause harm. True responsible journalism lies in respecting the dignity and rights of others.”

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet noted that the current trend of minimising the publication of graphic images from traffic accidents or of victims is a sign of growing professionalism among Cambodian journalists. He called on all journalists to uphold integrity, honesty, and ethical principles, and to exercise their rights with responsibility.

At the same time, Samdech Thipadei encouraged all Cambodians to take part in sharing positive stories about the country, particularly by supporting locally made products and Cambodian media.
