(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet called on citizens to support local products and actively promote Cambodia’s positive image to the international community. He emphasised that no one can love or represent Cambodia better than the Cambodian people themselves.
The premier spoke on Saturday (May 3) during the 7th gathering and solidarity dining with journalists at CCIC.
“There are journalists who have positively portrayed Cambodia. Some tourists have arrived as a result […] and some Cambodian journalists have conducted interviews in Chinese and English with local investors, thereby promoting investment opportunities to international audiences. This is a form of participation—it is not solely the responsibility or right of the government. I encourage you to continue supporting these efforts,” the premier underscored.
Samdech Thipadei noted that he had observed many journalists highlighting Cambodia’s ancient temples, beaches, and other attractions to present the country in a favourable light. He praised this as a meaningful contribution that complements the government’s efforts to attract more investors and tourists. He underlined that this role rightly belongs to journalists and content creators.
On the occasion, the prime minister also expressed gratitude to those who help convey a positive image of Cambodia globally. He encouraged them not to fear that positive news from Cambodia would go unnoticed, urging everyone to share such stories widely.
“We can use international standards as references to improve, but our primary goal must be to build a strong Cambodian media sector for the benefit of Cambodia—not for any other nation. We must have national pride, develop our own capabilities, and uplift our country. No one loves Cambodians more than Cambodians themselves, and no one can better support Cambodian media than Cambodians—the government and journalists alike,” Samdech Thipadei affirmed.
