(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen will lead a high-level delegation on an official visit to the Republic of Indonesia from 5 to 7 May 2025, followed by an official visit to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste from 7 to 9 May 2025, at the invitation of José Ramos-Horta, President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste.
"The delegation accompanying Samdech Techo includes Ouch Borith, First Vice President of the Senate of Cambodia; members of the Senate and the National Assembly; senior leaders of Cambodia’s legislative institutions; and officials from relevant ministries and agencies," according to the press release seen by Fresh News on Sunday (May 4).
"During his visit to Indonesia, Samdech Techo will hold separate courtesy call with top Indonesian leaders, including Prabowo Subianto, President of Indonesia; Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin, Speaker of the Senate of Indonesia; and Puan Maharani, Speaker of the People's Representative Council of Indonesia.
During his stay in Jakarta, Samdech Techo will visit the ASEAN Secretariat and (1) hold a joint meeting with the ASEAN secretary general, the committee of permanent representatives to ASEAN, and the ambassador of Timor-Leste to ASEAN; and (2) deliver a keynote address entitled “Cambodia and ASEAN, ASEAN and the World,” marking the 26th anniversary of Cambodia’s accession to ASEAN.
Samdech Techo will also deliver a lecture titled “Visions and Experiences in Cambodia’s Peacebuilding Efforts” at the ERIA School of Government. Attendees will include the ASEAN secretary-general, ASEAN permanent representatives, ambassadors from ASEAN Member States, leaders and former leaders of Indonesian ministries and institutions, as well as representatives from civil society organisations in Indonesia.
During the official visit to Timor-Leste, Samdech Techo will hold separate meetings with José Ramos-Horta, President of Timor-Leste; Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, Prime Minister; and Maria Fernanda Lay, Speaker of the National Parliament. On this occasion, he will also address a special session of the Timor-Leste National Parliament and deliver a keynote speech entitled “The Lessons of Hun Sen: From Genocide and Poverty to Freedom and Prosperity” at the Presidential Palace, attended by Members of Parliament, government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, students, and representatives of civil society in Timor-Leste.
It is noteworthy that, as a gesture of appreciation and in recognition of Samdech Techo’s significant contributions over more than two decades in supporting Timor-Leste—particularly in its pursuit of full ASEAN membership—the President of Timor-Leste will bestow upon him the Grand Collar of the Order of Timor-Leste, the nation’s highest honour and a distinguished tribute from the Timorese side.
This visit by Samdech Techo Hun Sen, in his capacity as President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia, to Indonesia and Timor-Leste underscores Cambodia’s strong commitment to advancing parliamentary diplomacy and to strengthening and expanding its bilateral and multilateral relations. These efforts aim to promote regional and global peace, security, stability, and prosperity."
