(Phnom Penh): Chief of Police at Phnom Penh International Airport, Sok Thea, stated that, in accordance with high-level directives from Cambodian Minister of Interior Sar Sokha and under the leadership of Sok Vathana, Director General of the General Department of Immigration, police officers stationed at Phnom Penh International Airport have been implementing and upholding a policy of refusing to accept tips from travellers for over ten months.
Sok Thea further explained that the policy is intended to preserve the dignity, honour, and professional values of the immigration police officers stationed at the airport. Most importantly, it aims to prevent dissatisfaction or discomfort among both national and international travellers entering or departing Cambodia.
He added that he continues to strictly enforce this directive by fully prohibiting and taking disciplinary action against any immigration officers found accepting tips from travellers, as such behaviour would undermine the dignity and reputation of the officers, negatively influence the perception of travellers, and tarnish the image and prestige of the nation.
