(Kandal): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that the diplomatic relationship between Cambodia and South Korea, which was reestablished by former Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen in 1997, has brought significant benefits to the nation and its people.
The premier spoke on Tuesday (May 6) at the groundbreaking ceremony for the sewerage system development project in Ta Khmau Town, Kandal province.
Samdech Thiapdei Hun Manet underscored the value of the 28-year diplomatic ties between Cambodia and South Korea, describing the relationship as a cornerstone of mutual development and cooperation.
The premier specifically noted that the Ta Khmau City Sewerage System Development Project will provide substantial benefits to local communities in terms of public health and environmental protection by reducing the risk of disease transmission and improving sanitation, thereby enhancing the overall well-being of residents, especially those living in and around Ta Khmau City.
Samdech Thipadei underscored, “This year marks the 28th anniversary of official diplomatic relations between Cambodia and South Korea. Although ties were initially established in 1970, they were nearly severed during the Khmer Rouge era. It was Samdech Techo Hun Sen who later took the initiative to restore relations with the Republic of Korea, paving the way for renewed cooperation.”
Bilateral relations have seen remarkable progress in recent years, particularly during his official visit to South Korea, where ties were elevated to the level of a strategic partnership, a move that is expected to further strengthen cooperation in various sectors.
Prime Minister Hun Manet also expressed his deep appreciation to the government and people of South Korea for their continued support of Cambodia’s development across multiple fields, including investment, trade, tourism, education, healthcare, employment, and infrastructure. Additionally, he acknowledged South Korea’s role in providing good working opportunities for many Cambodian workers under favourable conditions.
