(Phnom Penh): In the first three months of 2025, Cambodia’s exports of garments, footwear, travel goods, and bags totalled approximately USD 3.5 billion, marking a 20.1 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2024.
Sun Mesa, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, stated that the value of textile and garment exports reached about USD 3.5 billion during this period, reflecting a 20.1 per son year-on-year growth.
He added that exports to ASEAN markets rose by 24 per cent, while shipments to the European Union increased by 20.8 per cent. Exports to Japan grew by 19.9 per cent, and those to the United States surged by nearly 25.7 per cent.
Sun Mesa underscored, “The Cambodian economy has continued to perform well in early 2025. Despite the complex and uncertain global political and economic landscape, our textile and garment exports increased by more than 20 per cent, which is a positive sign and a point of pride for our nation.”
Meanwhile, Sam Soeun, President of the National Labour Confederation (NLC), stated that Cambodia’s textile and garment industry is not facing any significant challenges. He highlighted that job creation in the sector continues to grow, driven by steady foreign investment, a reflection of investor confidence in the government’s ability to maintain peace and stability.
The president stated, “As a union representative, I’m very pleased to see the government, through the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, share such clear and encouraging export growth figures. This confirms that Cambodia’s garment industry remains stable and resilient.”
He also affirmed that the export growth is a reflection of Cambodia’s strong economic performance. He encouraged workers to remain responsible in their duties and to be cautious of misinformation from individuals or foreign non-governmental organizations that often make unfounded claims without evidence.
