(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed that peace remains a fundamental prerequisite for progress in both Buddhist and national affairs, speaking on Friday (May 9) during the inauguration of the Techo Santepheap Dormitory and other achievements at Svay Pope Pagoda, Phnom Penh.

“According to the report presented by Minister of Cults and Religion Chay Borin, the number of Buddhist pagodas and monks across the country continues to rise steadily. This clearly demonstrates that peace is a vital and ongoing precondition for everyone. Peace not only forms the foundation for national development, but also enables religious communities to freely conduct their rituals and religious practices. This, in itself, is part of national development — particularly in nurturing moral values, ethics, and social harmony, all of which contribute to a thriving society,” the premier underscored.

Samdech Thipadei added that, based on historical evidence, national development across all sectors is rooted in the strength of human capital. Cambodia, with its rich and ancient cultural heritage, draws its core values from Buddhism — especially gratitude, compassion, kindness, and nonviolence — which serve as guiding principles for peaceful coexistence within families and society at large.

On the occasion, the premier also underlined that all religions aim to promote love and mutual support. Any departure from these religious principal risks dividing society and inciting violence, ultimately leading to destruction.
