(Phnom Penh): Chem Widhya, Chairman of the Committee for Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, Media and Information (CFII) of the Senate of Cambodia, affirmed that the president of Indonesia accorded a state-level reception to Cambodian Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen, an honour equivalent to that given to a head of state and far exceeding the protocol of a routine working visit.
The chairman spoke on Friday (May 9) during a press conference on the outcomes of Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s official visit to Indonesia and Timor-Leste.
He emphasised that Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto had personally issued the final directive for Samdech Techo to be received with full state honours, not simply as a working visitor, but with the protocol reserved for an official state visit.
Chem Widhya further elaborated that this distinction was evident upon Samdech’s arrival, when a motorcade comprising 15 vehicles was dispatched to receive him—whereas a typical working visit would generally involve only two vehicles, positioned at the front and rear.
He went on to highlight another extraordinary aspect of the welcome such as a ceremonial cavalry guard was assembled in honour of Samdech’s arrival, an honour typically reserved for reigning monarchs and indicative of a high-level state reception.
