(Phnom Penh): Air Cambodia, Cambodia’s national airline, will start flying to Japan in October after the authorities of both countries granted permission to respond to the growing demand for tourists and investment in Cambodia.
Sinn Chanserey Vutha, Secretary of State and Spokesperson for Civil Aviation, said that the competent authorities of both countries agreed and approved the application of the national airline of Cambodia, Air Cambodia, for air transport business operations to Japan on Sunday.
Air Cambodia will start passenger flights between Phnom Penh-Kansai (Osaka, Japan) via Fuzhou, China (Phnom Penh/PNH – Fuzhou/FOC – Kansai/KIX), he said.
The Airbus A321 aircraft will operate four flights/week – Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, he added.
Speaking to Khmer Times, Vutha said currently the national airline of Cambodia is continuing to work closely with relevant airport operators to facilitate the provision of landing services at those airports.
“If nothing changes, the national airline of Cambodia may resume its passenger flight operations in October,” he said.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority, in the first quarter of 2025, Cambodia’s three international airports received 17,434 flights, an increase of 19 percent, including 1.96 million passengers, an increase of 19 percent, and nearly 20,000 tons of cargo, an increase of 10 percent, compared to the same period last year.
The company announced earlier this year about its official rebranding from ‘Cambodia Angkor Air’ to ‘Air Cambodia’.
This transformation includes enhancing services to meet 3-Star Skytrax standards for domestic and international passengers, alongside the introduction of three new ATR72-600 aircraft scheduled for mid-May 2025.
