(Kandal): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that administrative police posts function as frontline units that work closely with the public and serve as vital forces in implementing the Royal Government’s safe village-commune policy.
The premier spoke on Friday (May 16) on the occasion of the 80th founding anniversary of the Cambodian National Police.
Samdech Thipadei encouraged a more strategic reallocation of police personnel from the central level to local areas to improve operational effectiveness.
Samdech Thipadei underscored, “I call for a proper revision of police personnel deployment at the central level, with a greater shift of resources to the grassroots. Administrative police posts are on the front lines, directly engaging with citizens and playing a pivotal role in executing the safe village-commune policy".
The premier further directed that deep reforms of the National Police continue, with a strong focus on capacity building in areas such as law enforcement, professional skills, language proficiency, and information technology. The goal is to enhance performance in the digital era while upholding professionalism, ethics, integrity, and earning public trust.
Samdech Thipadei also underlined the importance of reinforcing the core role of the National Police in actively and thoroughly implementing the safe village-commune policy across the country. The focus should be on serving the public interest and prioritizing the nation’s highest interests above all else.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet encouraged the Ministry of Interior and the General Commissariat of the National Police to strengthen community-police relations. This is a key strategy to garner increased public participation in crime prevention and to effectively reduce all forms of criminal activity that affect daily life, including theft, robbery, illegal drug trafficking and distribution, cybercrime, human trafficking, juvenile delinquency, and domestic violence, thereby contributing to a safe and sustainably prosperous society.
On the occasion, the premier also called for improvements in police services to ensure they are more accessible, efficient, transparent, and accountable. These services must respond promptly and effectively to public needs and concerns, particularly in maintaining order and safety, as well as providing essential services such as fingerprint certification under police jurisdiction.
Samdech Thipadei urged the National Police to further strengthen cooperation with the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces to safeguard and preserve peace, the legacy of the win-win policy, protect national sovereignty and territorial integrity, foster peaceful and cooperative border areas, and jointly counter any hostile forces that seek to use one country’s territory to threaten another.
