(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet received a courtesy call by Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Cambodia Obaid Saeed Obaid Bintaresh Aldhaheri on Monday (May 19) at the Peace Palace.

During the meeting, the UAE ambassador commended the remarkable progress in bilateral relations between the UAE and Cambodia. He informed Samdech Thipadei that a delegation from the UAE Chamber of Commerce is planning an official visit to Cambodia to explore cooperation in organising a trade fair, with the aim of boosting investment and trade between the two countries.

The ambassador also noted that he would meet with relevant Cambodian ministries and institutions to further enhance bilateral cooperation and accelerate the implementation of previously agreed-upon frameworks. These discussions will include the development of concrete action plans and cooperation in key sectors such as logistics, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence (AI).

Furthermore, Ambassador Obaid Saeed Obaid Bintaresh Aldhaheri expressed the UAE’s commitment to deepening collaboration in the field of education, particularly by increasing the number of scholarships awarded to Cambodian students, especially in technology and AI-related disciplines.

For his part, Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed his appreciation for the growing bilateral ties, especially in tourism, as evidenced by the rise in direct flights between the UAE and Cambodia.

Samdech Thipadei also extended his gratitude to the UAE for its contributions to human resource development in Cambodia and for its support of the country’s Muslim community. He underlined that there remain many areas of untapped potential where Cambodia and the UAE can further strengthen and expand their cooperation.

Premier Hun Manet reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to developing its halal industry to promote the export of halal products to the Middle East, including the UAE.

Prime Minister Hun Manet encouraged the UAE ambassador to continue close dialogue with relevant Cambodian ministries and institutions to ensure the effective implementation of existing agreements.

Samdech Thipadei also expressed confidence that the ambassador would serve as a vital bridge in fostering deeper relations and stronger cooperation between Cambodia and the UAE.
