(Kampong Speu): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet advised relevant ministries and institutions that the preservation of natural resources must be prioritised when developing specific areas, as these resources are key drivers of ecotourism and vital in attracting both domestic and international visitors.

The premier spoke on Tuesday (May 20) at an inauguration ceremony of the Conch KT Cement Factory in Aural District, Kampong Speu Province.

“Sustainable development requires preserving nature as much as possible [...] Don’t focus solely on foreign tourists. There are many domestic tourists, and our people have the means. In fact, before COVID19, they already had significant capacity, and even now, they are not far behind,” the premier underscored.

According to Samdech Thipadei, the number of tourists has clearly rebounded. Just last weekend, for example, a large number of visitors travelled to Koh Kong Province for leisure, causing local guesthouses and hotels to reach full capacity due to the influx.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet expressed his confidence that once National Road 48 is fully completed, the number of tourists visiting this coastal province will continue to increase. He urged the relevant authorities to be thoroughly prepared to accommodate the growing number of visitors.

He also instructed provincial administrations to focus on strengthening the capacities of local communities so they can provide improved hospitality and services to tourists.
