(Kampong Speu): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet announced that the Royal Government will continue to waive taxes for cement production factories for an additional five years, with the aim of reducing the cost of locally produced cement and enhancing its competitiveness in the market.
The premier spoke on Tuesday (May 20) at an inauguration ceremony of the Conch KT Cement Factory in Aural District, Kampong Speu Province.
“In December, I approved an extension of this tax relief through 2025 and 2026, allowing the funds to be redirected to help ensure our local cement can compete with imports,” the premier underscored.
Samdech Thipadei explained that the purpose of the five-year tax suspension is to lower the cost of Cambodian cement, thereby improving its ability to compete with imported alternatives. This measure benefits consumers by enabling them to purchase domestic cement at more affordable prices while promoting the use of locally produced materials. As such, the government considers this foregone tax revenue an investment in national industry.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet noted that this initiative represents a form of mutual support—whether large or small—to facilitate business operations, especially in challenging times. He added that the Royal Government is extending similar support across various other sectors as part of its ongoing commitment to assist the private sector.
