(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet urged the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport to further strengthen the digital and technological capabilities of teachers at all levels by integrating digital technology into teaching and learning processes.
The premier spoke on Wednesday (May 21) at the graduation of students and student teachers of the National Institute of Education.
In addition, Samdech Thipadei advised the Ministry work on enhancing digital content, establishing digital education centres, expanding access to digital platforms, and modernising training programmes for school directors at all levels.
“The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport must continue to enhance the digital and technological skills of teachers by integrating digital technology into teaching and learning, improving digital content, creating digital education centres, promoting wider access to digital platforms, and modernising training for school leaders at all levels,” the premier underscored.
Furthermore, the premier instructed the Ministry to reform teacher training institutions by improving the quality of newly graduated teachers and conducting evaluations of in-service teachers. These efforts are aimed at meeting the demands of 21st-century education and keeping pace with the rapid development of digital technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), while also aligning with the “Teacher Professional Standards” and the “Model Teacher Training School Standards.”
Samdech Thipadei also encouraged the Ministry to continue strengthening the implementation of innovative methods in teaching, learning, and assessment to help students develop critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and creativity for everyday life.
