(Kuala Lumpur): At the invitation of Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia and the Rotating Chair of ASEAN for 2025, Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary General of ASEAN, will lead the ASEAN Secretariat delegation to attend the 46th ASEAN Summit, the 2nd ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit, and the ASEAN-GCC-China Summit.

These high-level meetings will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 26-27 May 2025, under the theme "Inclusivity and Sustainability." These consecutive summits will also include engagements between ASEAN Heads of State/Government and representatives from the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), ASEAN youth, and the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC).

In addition, the secretary general will take part in the 16th Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Summit and the 16th Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) Summit.

Ahead of these gatherings, he will participate in a series of preparatory meetings on 25 May 2025, including the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, the 29th ASEAN Political-Security Community Council Meeting, the 25th ASEAN Economic Community Council Meeting, and the 26th ASEAN Coordinating Council Meeting.

The ASEAN secretary general also plans to hold bilateral meetings with senior officials from ASEAN Member States, ASEAN’s external partners, and international organisations. These discussions will aim to exchange views on strengthening existing cooperation, exploring new areas of collaboration, and advancing efforts towards ASEAN community-building.

On this occasion, the ASEAN secretary general will also grant interviews to media outlets to promote ASEAN diplomacy, raise public awareness, and deepen understanding of ASEAN’s role and priorities.

These forthcoming summits represent a key opportunity to assess ASEAN’s progress, outline future directions, and reaffirm the region’s commitment to peace, stability, and sustainable development—particularly as ASEAN moves forward with its ASEAN Community Vision 2045, a historic 20-year roadmap for regional advancement.
