(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen received a courtesy call by Ek Nath Dhakal, Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC), on Friday (May 23) at the Senate.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his pleasure and warmly welcomed the ISC secretary general and his delegation on their official visit to Cambodia. He also thanked the secretary general for presenting him with a founding membership insignia.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen congratulated and highly praised the outcomes of the recent Universal Peace Federation (UPF) Summit, held on 11 April 2025.

During the meeting, ISC Secretary General Ek Nath Dhakal expressed his deep appreciation to Samdech Techo Hun Sen allowing the delegation to pay their respects. He also conveyed greetings from Sun Myung Moon, Founder of the UPF.

The secretary general highlighted Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s legacy of leadership and ongoing support for ISC’s mission. He underscored, “Samdech Techo is recognised not only in Cambodia and the region but also globally for his exceptional leadership.”

Ek Nath Dhakal and his delegation sought Samdech Techo's guidance to further strengthen ISC’s role and help the organisation expand its engagement with international institutions.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen encouraged ISC to play a broader role in addressing global challenges, especially in promoting peace and resolving conflicts such as war, by expanding its cooperation with international bodies.

During the meeting, Ek Nath Dhakal respectfully requested Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s support, particularly in helping the International Parliamentarians’ Conference (ISC) gain observer status in the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (IPA) in the near future.

In response, Samdech Techo conveyed his warm regards to Sun Myung Moon, noting that he remembers her fondly. He expressed full support for ISC’s effort to become an observer member of the IPA, describing it as a justified and constructive initiative. He underlined that this would be a meaningful step for ISC to enhance its global presence, particularly in contributing to international peace efforts.

Samdech Techo also shared his views on current global issues, highlighting the ongoing war in Ukraine, the conflict in the Gaza Strip, and rising tensions in the South China Sea. He offered various perspectives and recommendations on how ISC could play a greater role in addressing these complex challenges.

Samdech Techo stated that in today’s increasingly unstable world, ISC’s mission has become more critical than ever. With many large international institutions losing influence, there is a growing need for stronger participation from regional organisations.

Samdech Techo advised ISC to strengthen its Secretariat to establish a robust operational foundation. He underscored that a capable and well-structured Secretariat is essential for ISC’s long-term sustainability and effectiveness.

As a founding member of ISC, Samdech Techo Hun Sen encouraged the secretary general to expand the organisation’s presence in international mechanisms and platforms, allowing it to contribute more effectively to resolving global problems, especially the promotion of peace.

The secretary general expressed sincere gratitude for Samdech Techo’s valuable guidance and pledged to put his recommendations into practice to support ISC’s growth and impact.

Samdech Techo encouraged the Ek Nath Dhakal to continue close collaboration with Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia.
