(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet instructed relevant authorities to strengthen the monitoring and prevention of food imports containing harmful chemicals, especially durian and beef, which are currently under a temporary import ban due to disease-related concerns. This directive is aimed at safeguarding the health of Cambodian citizens.
The premier presided over the weekly cabinet meeting on Friday (May 23) at the Peace Palace.
During the meeting, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also commended the Ministry of Interior and relevant authorities for their effective implementation of the Safe Village Commune policy. Nevertheless, he urged that these efforts be maintained consistently, like gentle, steady rainfall, to help eliminate issues such as theft, drug abuse, and juvenile delinquency, thereby ensuring peace and security for the population.
It should be noted that he Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, on 7 May 2025, imposed a temporary ban on the import of live livestock (cattle and buffalo) and meat products from all border crossings with Thailand. This measure follows reports of a fatal anthrax outbreak among livestock in several regions of Thailand.
