(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet advised all relevant ministries and institutions to heighten vigilance and expand lightning protection systems in the Angkor archaeological area to ensure the safety of the public and visiting tourists.

The premier presided over the weekly Cabinet meeting on Friday (May 23) at the Peace Palace.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet noted that, in the context of increasingly severe natural disasters such as lightning strikes, the responsible ministries and institutions must reassess the existing lightning protection systems and explore the feasibility of enhancing these systems in tourist zones—particularly within the Angkor heritage site.

In this regard, Samdech Thipadei specifically instructed the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, which supervises the APSARA Authority, to coordinate with the Siem Reap provincial authorities to implement this directive.
