(Tokyo): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that during his official meetings with the Japanese prime minister and the speaker of the Japanese Parliament, there was no discussion of the concerns raised by Japanese opposition lawmaker Naoto Sakaguchi.

The premier spoke on Saturday (May 31) during a meeting with Cambodian community in Japan.

Earlier, Japanese lawmaker Naoto Sakaguchi had called on the Japanese government to raise human rights concerns in Cambodia during Prime Minister Hun Manet’s four-day official visit to Japan.

Samdech Thipadei underscored, “Before I arrived in Japan, a Japanese parliamentarian made public demands urging the government to take certain actions and deliver certain messages. However, when I met with the head of government and the parliament speaker, they had their own agenda. Our discussions focused entirely on professional cooperation and official matters.”

On the occasion, the premier added that no Japanese parliamentarian has accused their government or parliament of lacking democracy simply because their personal demands weren’t addressed or because the government engaged in dialogue with me.
