(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Senate President, Samdech Techo Hun Sen renewed his appeal to all Cambodian citizens, urging them not to allow the recent clash in the Emerald Triangle border area to escalate into racial discrimination or undermine cooperation between Cambodia and Thailand.

Samdech Techo spoke on Monday (Jun. 2) during the inaugural joint congress of the National Assembly and Senate Cambodia–Thailand border dispute issue.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen underscored, “I want to make it clear that this dispute must not be used as a reason to disrupt Cambodia–Thailand cooperation across any existing sectors. Disputes are disputes, and cooperation must remain cooperation. Our friendship must continue.”

Samdech Techo added, “Therefore, I appeal to all Cambodians: do not let this become a racial issue. Do not allow the conflict to spread to other areas, or shift from a military matter into economic, trade, investment, tourism, cultural, or educational sectors. Please approach this issue with care and consideration.”

In addition, Samdech Techo Hun Sen offered several recommendations to the Royal Government of Cambodia regarding the ongoing Cambodia–Thailand border dispute.
