(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen warmly welcomed Cambodian nationals residing or working in Thailand to return home, urging them not to tolerate mistreatment or discrimination from Thai extremists.
Samdech Techo spoke on Monday (Jun. 16) in a special message.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen reaffirmed that the Royal Government of Cambodia will accept all Cambodian citizens, regardless of their paperwork status.
In cases where Cambodian workers in Thailand lack proper documentation, they may obtain travel documents from Cambodian embassies or consulates, which are also authorized to handle labour-related matters.
“Those who need travel documents must approach Cambodian embassies or consulates, where labour services are also available. But for those who have no documents yet are able to return, the Royal Government of Cambodia will accept all of them—regardless of documentation status—as long as they are Cambodian nationals. We must accept our citizens’ return. We cannot allow them to be insulted or mistreated, especially as racial discrimination against Cambodian workers in Thailand is worsening,” Senate president underscored.
In addition to accepting all returnees, officials have been instructed to provide care and arrange transportation to their home villages.
Samdech Techo also highlighted that Cambodia currently offers a wide range of employment opportunities, particularly in the industrial, agricultural, and construction sectors, with tens of thousands of job openings available. He added that Cambodian workers cannot depend on foreign countries for their livelihoods indefinitely, adding that now is an appropriate time to return.
